071030 New Windsor Silver vs Minisink Valley Green vs Valley Central Vikings
  • The New Windsor Eagles Silver finished the regular season with an outstanding record of 6-2. They found themselves tied with Minisink Valley Green and the Valley Central Vikings for the final 2 playoff spots. On Tuesday, October 30th, the 3 teams met in Middletown, NY in what was deemed the D1 Playoff Battle Royal. The first round of the D1 Playoff Battle Royal consisted of each team playing the other two opponents in two six-minute halves.
  • The Eagles started off playing the Valley Central Vikings. The Vikings, whose playbook has to be as thick as War and Peace, have the most talented and versatile offense the tough and stingy Eagles defense has faced all season. The Vikings marched down the field 65 yards on their first possession and scored on their 6th play of the drive. Making tackles and administering some head rattling hits during the drive were LJ Lucas, Quinn Mullarkey, Jack Walsh, Manny Vazquez, Brennan Piekarz, Sean Hofving, Justin Mitchell, Robby Galeano, and Adam Wixon.
  • The Eagles offense took possession at their own 35 and struck right back with their own 65 yard, 6 play TD drive. Carrying the ground game during the drive were Sean and Justin. Justin had 61 of his 107 yards and first of two touchdowns for the night in this drive. Opening up holes for the running game were Austin Wixon at Left End, Mike Mulligan at Left Tackle, John Taxi Serrano at Left Guard, Jack at Center, Tomas Guzman at Right Guard, Manny at Right Tackle, and Brennan at Right End.
  • The Eagles offense started the 2nd half and went 28 yards before coming up short on 4th down at the Valley Central 37 yard line. The big offensive play for the Eagles on the drive was Brennan's 20-yard run.
  • The Vikings started off on their own 37-yard line and went 42 yards before being stopped on 4th down. Nick Caldwell, LJ, and Sean got their second solo tackles of the night during the drive. Also coming away with tackles and assists were Justin, Jack, Taxi, Tomas, and Brennan. With the turnover on downs, the Eagles had the ball on their own 21, but time expired after their second play of the drive, sending the game into overtime, tied 6-6.
  • In overtime, each team gets a chance to score from the defense's 20-yard line. Valley Central won the coin toss and elected to start off on offense. On their 4th play of the drive, the Vikings scored and then followed it up with the extra point for the 13-6 lead. The Eagles then took possession at Valley Central 20 yard line, but fumbled the ball on their 3rd play. The fumble was recovered by Vikings defense, which sealed the victory for Valley Central.
  • With the season on the line, with a win or go home game, the Eagles were now up against the Minisink Valley Green. Minisink won the coin toss and started off on offense. Their drive lasted 3 plays and ended when Tomas stripped the running back of the ball. Tomas held on for the fumble recovery. This gave the Eagles offense the ball at their own 43-yard line. The Eagles offense could not get anything going and was forced to punt.
  • Minisink took over at their own 25-yard line and went 26 yards on offense before the first half ended. Coming up big on defense were Brennan and Justin with 2 solo tackles and 1 assist each. Dominick Colotti had a solo tackle while at left cornerback. Jack, Nick, and Sean also came up with assists. The front line of Eric Marte, Jonte Wilson, Adam, Manny, and Tomas did a nice job of stopping the running game up front.
  • The Eagles offense started the 2nd half and went 3 and out for the second consecutive time. The Eagles punted, giving Minisink Valley the ball at their own 43-yard line. They drove 57 yards and were assisted by a 15-yard phantom facemask call that was only seen by the refs. Justin came away with 3 solo tackles during the drive. Taxi had a big tackle behind the line of scrimmage. Dominick and Brennan each had an assist. On the extra appoint attempt, Dominick met the RB at the one yard line and administered a painful hit that drove the RB backwards to keep the score at 6-0.
  • The Eagles started their final drive of the night at their own 35-yard line with less than a minute to play. Their first running play only netted them 2 yards. With 14 seconds remaining in the game and possibly their season, offensive guru Kevin Hofving called for a quick slant (AKA The Brennan Play). Sean took the snap and hit a wide-open Brennan over the middle. Brennan raced 63 yards for the score, which extending the Eagles season just a little bit longer and silenced an exuberant Minisink Valley sideline. The Eagles failed to convert the extra point and were forced into their second overtime of the evening.
  • The Eagles won the coin toss and started off the overtime on offense. It took just 3 plays for the Eagles to score on Justin's 16-yard run, giving the Eagles a 12-6 lead.
  • Minisink's turn on offense lasted just 3 plays. Justin and Manny each had a solo tackle on the first two plays. On the third and final play, Tomas busted through the line and forced his second fumble of the night. It was quickly recovered by Austin to seal the game for the Eagles and give the Eagles a 12-6 victory over Minisink Valley.
  • Minisink then went on to face Valley Central, who they lost to in overtime. This eliminated Minisink from the playoffs and gave Valley Central the third seed and New Windsor the fourth seed.
  • New Windsor's first playoff game is Saturday, November 4th at 4pm against the number one seed Middletown Bears at Watts Field in Middletown.

The Eagles defense smothered Marlboro's offense by allowing just 18 yards total offense. The Eagles defense was so dominant, that every Marlboro drive either ended in a 3 and out, a turnover, or time expiring.

Facing 3rd and long, Marlboro tried a pass over the middle that got intercepted by Sean.
  • Sean's interception put New Windsor on Marlboro's 45 yard line, but the Eagles were hampered by 2 false start penalties and couldn't capitalize on the great field position. The Eagles elected to punt, which gave Marlboro the ball back at their own 22. Marlboro put up their only offensive drive of the game that was not 3 and out. Leading the defense were Justin (1 solo and 2 assists), and Jack Walsh and Austin with an assist each.
  • Marlboro's next drive went for 4 total yards, which included a 5 yard penalty on the Eagles defense. The drive ended as the first half came to an end. Getting in the backfield to make some big hits and tackles were Manny Vazquez, Tomas Guzman, Nick and Jonte Wilson.

  • The Eagles offense started their second drive of the 2nd half on their own 46 yard line. On the first play, Sean did a QB sweep to the left side and ran 54 yards into the endzone. A penalty on the Eagles wiped out the TD and gave the offense the ball on the Marlboro 10 yard line. Four plays later, the Eagles failed to score and turned the ball over on downs.
  • The Eagles were still clinging to a 6-0 with about 4 minutes to go in the game. The offense started their last drive of the game from their own 46 yard line, which resulted in a time consuming, 8 play, 54 yard TD drive. • With defense doing their job the second half, the Eagles desperately needed to get something going on offense. That is when LJ stepped up, took the handoff, and carried the Eagles offense from the 50 to the endzone on the first play of the drive. Providing excellent blocking and opening up the left side of the line were Eric Marte, Tomas, and Jonte. This cut the Bears lead to 18-12. This play got the team and Eagles faithful fans back into the game and made the chances of a comeback that much greater. Unfortunately, the chances of tying the game only lasted momentarily. On the 2nd play of Middletown's next drive, the Bears running back ran up the middle and just kept going for a 62 yard TD run and 24-12 advantage.
  • With less than 3 minutes left in the game, the Eagles offense tried valiantly to get into the endzone once again. Their drive started on their own 35 and ended on the Middletown 29 as the Eagles failed to convert the first down and turned the ball over on downs.
