031102 - New Windsor vs Pinebush
- Eagles Miss Playoffs.
- The New Windsor Division III Eagles and Cheerleaders traveled to Washingtonville on Sunday, November 2, to face the Pine Bush Bushmen. With a victory, the Eagles had a chance to secure a playoff berth. In an exciting back and forth battle, the Eagles were stopped by Pine Bush 30-19.
- The Eagles scored on the opening drive of the game. Matt Walker burst around left end, broke three tackles, and outraced the Pine Bush defense 76 yards to score and put the Eagles up 6-0. Pine Bush responded with a bruising 13 play drive which knotted the score at 6-6. Both teams were unable to sustain a drive on their next few possessions. With under 1 minute left in the first half, Pine Bush capitalized on a bad long snap on 4th down. The Bushmen took possession on the Eagle 3 yard line. Pine Bush scored and converted the kick attempt try which put them up 14-6. Pine Bush took the opening kick of the second half and marched down the field and scored again. The kick for the extra point was good and made the score 22-6. Two series later the Eagles' Eddie Sanchez hit Matt Walker in stride for a 66 yard touchdown to cut the deficit to 22-12. Pine Bush took the ensuing kickoff, marched down the field, and scored to increase the lead to 30-12. The Eagles responded on their next drive. Eddie Sanchez' second touchdown pass, this one to Robbie DeGidio narrowed the lead to 30-18. Sanchez' pass to Kevin Marry for the extra point closed out the scoring for the Eagles at 30-19.
- The Eagles offensive line was powered by Michael Murphy, Kevin Marry, James Wright, Craig Rybicki, Brendan DiPerna, Anthony Nestor, Robbie DeGidio, Toby Lee, Don Starkey, and Anthony Cardona. Running backs Mat Walker, Mike Durso, Jared Baker, Don Starkey, Eddie Sanchez, and Max Gordon rushed for over 200 yards. Quarterback Eddie Sanchez passed for 2 touchdowns. The Eagles' defense was led by Gabriel Haynes, Andrew Ponessa, Demuy Gray, Jared Baker, Ryan Davies, Vincent VanRiper, and Mike Phillips. Matt Walker, Andrew Ponessa, Kevin Marry, Brendan DiPerna, Eddie Sanchez, and Robbie DeGidio all had tackles for losses.
- Throughout the season the inspirational play on both sides of the ball by Matt Walker, Eddie Sanchez, Mike Durso, Robbie DeGidio, Max Gordon, Anthony Nestor, Gabriel Haynes, Jared Baker, and Brendan DiPerna provided the leadership the team needed. Their play helped enable their teammates to grow and improve.
- Another very important and unsung inspiration was provided by the Lady Eagle Cheerleaders. Cheerleader Coaches Carrie Nolan, and Jamie Stumpf led a motivated and knowledgeable squad. Cheerleaders Lani Almodoval, Kaylee Bergin, Jessica Bicknell, Ashley Briskin, Samantha Carlone, Jazmyn Colquitt, Fatima Davidson, Gina DeMatteo, Jennifer DeCicco, Amanda Maxwell, and Alaina Titka were always enthusiastic and energetic. The Lady Eagles handled the bad weather and tough losses with character and dignity. They are a credit to themselves and the entire organization!
- Seasons cannot be measured solely by wins and losses. We all want the players and cheerleaders to grow as individuals and as a unit. The Division III Eagles, and the Division III Lady Eagle Cheerleaders did just that! Coaches Anthony Dario, Lou Gordon, Doug Murphy, and Rod Walker want to thank the players, cheerleaders, parents, friends, and the New Windsor Youth Football League for the opportunity to learn and grow with them.
031026 - New Windsor vs Chester
- Eagles Cage Cougars.
- The New Windsor Eagles Division III team and cheerleaders hosted the Chester Cougars at Mt. Airy Sports Complex Sunday, October 26. The Eagles played their finest game of the season. Led by Eddie Sanchez, Matt Walker, Mike Durso, and Max Gordon, the Eagles rushed for over 200 yards in the first half. On the defensive line, Andrew Ponessa and Demuy Gray were outstanding and inspired the entire defensive unit. The Eagles controlled the ball the line of scrimmage the entire game enroute to a 32-0 victory.
- The Eagles turned the ball over in their territory on the first drive of the game. In what was to be a sign of things to come the defense stopped the Cougars. On the second play after the defensive stand, Eddie Sanchez swept around left end and raced 73 yards to open the scoring. Matt Walker converted the extra point attempt to make the score 7-0. The Eagles scored on their next possession. On third down, needing 2 yards, Matt Walker burst through the right side of the Cougar defense and sprinted 58 yards for a touchdown. Eddie Sanchez converted the extra point attempt to make the score 14-0. Mike Durso's 70 yard sprint around right end set up the next score. Eddie Sanchez swept around left end to put the Eagles up 20-0. On the Cougars' opening drive of the second half, Mike Durso's beautiful shoe top interception and 30 yard return set up the next Eagle score. Eddie Sanchez swept around right end and dashed 38 yards to the end zone. The Eagles final score came when her Cougar pass attempt and raced 25 yards to the end zone.
- The offensive line led by Robbie DeGidio, Anthony Nestor, Craig Rybicki, Brendan DiPerna, James Wright, Kevin Marry, Michael Murphy, Toby Lee, Anthony Cardona, Gabriel Haynes and Donald Starkey controlled the line of scrimmage throughout the afternoon. Jared Baker, Anthony Cardona, Anthony Nestor, Donald Starkey, and Brendan DiPerna ran the ball well and committed no turnovers. Defensively, Anthony Ponessa, Demuy Gray, Gabe Haynes, Jared Baker, Michael Murphy, Donald Starkey, Ryan Davies, and Vincent VanRiper stopped the run and pressured the quarterback all afternoon. The Eagles had 8 tackles for a loss behind the line of scrimmage. They also had 4 sacks, 2 by Matt Walker, 1.5 by Andrew Ponessa, and .5 by Demuy Gray. Eddie Sanchez stopped a sweep around the right end and took the ball from the Cougar running back to force another turnover.

031019 - New Windsor vs Warwick
- Eagles Grounded by Wildcats.
- The New Windsor Eagles Division III team and cheerleaders hosted the Warwick Wildcats at Mt. Airy Sports Complex Sunday, October 19. It was a gray raw afternoon. Morning rain turned the field into a quagmire. Warwick scored a touchdown on the final play of the game and won 19-13. The Eagles were led by Eddie Sanchez, Matt Walker, Mike Durso, Max Gordon, Anthony Nestor, and Robbie DeGidio. Their play on both sides of the ball kept their teammates focused and enabled the Eagles to tie the game after trailing 13-0.
- For the second week in a row, a bad snap from center on a punt attempt set the Wildcats offense up deep in Eagle territory at the 29 yard line. Six plays later, Warwick scored and took a 6-0 lead. For the remainder of the first half, both teams moved the ball well but were unable to score. The Wildcats took the second half kickoff, marched down the field and scored to make the score 13-0. Two possessions later, the Eagles scored on a nifty 41 yard sweep by quarterback Eddie Sanchez. The Eagles failed to convert the extra point attempt leaving the score 13-6. Warwick took the ensuing kick off and ran off a 14 play drive. The Eagle defense stiffened and kept the Wildcats from scoring. The Eagles marched down the field and scored on a beautifully executed 18 yard pitch to Matt Walker. Matt Walker converted the extra point attempt to tie the score at 13. Warwick, facing third and sixteen completed a 68 yard pass to the Eagles 5 yard line. Two plays later, Warwick scored the winning touchdown as the game clock expired.
- The Eagles offensive line of Robbie DeGidio, Anthony Nestor, Craig Rybicki, Anthony Cardona, Brendan DiPerna, James Wright, Kevin Marry, Michael Murphy, Toby Lee, and Donald Starkey had a better effort than in the Minisink game. Running backs Michael Durso, Max Gordan, Matt Walker, tight end Robbie DeGidio, and quarterback Edwin Sanchez were able to run and pass for more than 200 yards. The Eagles defensive line was bolstered by the addition of Anthony Dario, and Geovanni Espinal who were playing in their first game of the season. Throughout the game, Brendan DiPerna, Anthony Ponessa, Demuy Gray, Gabe Haynes, Jared Baker, Kevin Marry, Ryan Davies, Danny Summer, and Mike Phillips were unable to consistently stop the Wildcat running attack. Matt Walker had 2 quarterback sacks and was a force. For the second game in a row, hard hitting by the defense led to fumbles but the Eagles were unable to recover any.
- The Eagles and Cheerleaders want to thank the parents, and friends who braved a raw, blustery day to support their effort. The Eagles and Cheerleaders will host Chester, Sunday, October 26, at 1:00 P.M., at the Mt Airy Sports Complex.
031011 - New Windsor vs Minisink Valley Green
- New Windsor Eagles Fall to Minisink Green Warriors.
- The New Windsor Eagles and Cheerleaders traveled to Minisink to face the Minisink Green Warriors, Saturday, October 11. The Eagles were unable to get untracked in the first half. The game was an old-fashioned slugfest. The Minisink Green Warriors stopped the Eagles 21-6. Minisink scored midway into the second quarter. They converted the 2-point kick conversion. The half ended 8-0. Minisink opened the scoring in the second half after a bad center snap on an Eagle punt attempt put the Warriors on the Eagle 29 yard line. The Eagles scored early in the fourth quarter on a brilliant 15-yard run by Matt Walker to narrow the score to 14-6. The Warriors scored on their next possession and successfully converted the 1-point conversion.
- The Eagles offensive execution was not as sharp as in previous games. The blocking by the offensive line of Robbie DeGidio, Anthony Nestor, Craig Rybicki, Anthony Cardona, Clint Edwards, Kevin Marry, Michael Murphy, Toby Lee, and Donald Starkey was inconsistent. As a result, running backs Michael Durso, Max Gordon, Matt Walker, and quarterback Edwin Sanchez were unable to wear down the Warrior defense. The Eagles did have some success in the passing game with Robbie DeGidio, and Matt Walker making a couple of fine catches that sparked the offense.
- The Eagles defense got worn down because they spent too much time on the field. Brendan DiPerna, Anthony Ponessa, Demuy Gray, Gabe Haynes, Jared Baker, James Wright, Ryan Davies, Vincent VonRiper, Danny Summer, and Mike Phillips gave a gutty performance. Hard hitting by the defense led to some fumbles but the Eagles only managed to recover one when Clint Edwards recovered one to thwart a Warrior drive.
- The Eagles were led by Eddie Sanchez, Matt Walker, Mike Durso, Clint Edwards, and Robbie DeGidio. They played both ways the entire game and kept their teammates focused. The game ended with New Windsor driving inside the Minisink 15 yard line.
- The Eagles and Cheerleaders want to thank the other coaches, players, parents, and friends who made the trip to Minisink to support them. The Eagles and Cheerleaders will host the Warwick Wildcats, Sunday, October 19, at 1:00 P.M., at the Mt Airy Sports Complex.

030928 - New Windsor vs Washingtonville
- New Windsor Eagles Beat Washingtonville in Overtime.
- The New Windsor Eagles Division III team and cheerleaders hosted the Washingtonville Dozers at the Mt. Airy Sports Complex, Sunday, September 28. The Eagles defeated the Dozers 19-13 in overtime. The game, played in a driving rain, on a waterlogged field was an epic struggle between the two archrivals.
- Washingtonville took the opening kick off and marched down the field. The ten play drive and successful extra point attempt made the score 7-0. The Eagles fumbled on the second play after the ensuing kickoff. Robbie DeGidio's fumble recovery thwarted the Dozers drive. The Eagles got on the scoreboard on their next possession. Matt Walker's brilliant 57 yard run off left tackle made the score 7-6. For the balance of the first half both teams moved the ball but were unable to get another score. The Eagles would score on their first possession of the second half. Eddie Sanchez' dazzling 63 yard sprint around the right end gave the Eagles their first lead of the day. Matt Walker converted the extra point attempt to make the score 13-7. Robbie DeGidio's second fumble recovery of the day stopped the next dozer drive. On the Eagles next possession penalties and poor execution led to a 3rd and 25 inside the 30 yard line. Matt Walker's 45 yard quick kick on third down kept the Eagles out of trouble. With time running out, Washingtonville's launched a nine play drive and tied the score at 13. The Eagle defense did not lose their composure. They did not allow the Dozers to convert the extra point attempt and forced the game into overtime. In the overtime session, the Eagle defense stayed sharp and did not allow the Dozers to score. The offense moved the ball well in overtime. Matt Walker's second touchdown of the day capped a 20 yard drive and gave the Eagles the victory.
- Once again, the hard work of the Eagles offensive line allowed Matt Walker, Eddie Sanchez, and Mike Durso to rush for more than 200 yards. Paving the way for the running attack were Max Gordon, Robbie DeGidio, Kevin Marry, Brendan DiPerna, Clint Edwards, Craig Rybicki, Anthony Nestor, Michael Murphy, Don Starkey, Anthony Cardona, and Toby Lee. Defensively Gabriel Haynes, Clint Edwards, Jarred Baker, Ryan Davies, James Wright, Demuy Gray, and Andrew Ponessa were solid. Vincent VonRiper, Michael Phillips, and Danny Summer played well on defense. Brendan DiPerna's hard work on both the offensive and defensive lines was impressive. As always the Eagles were inspired and led by the play of Max Gordon, Mike Durso, Matt Walker, Eddie Sanchez, Anthony Nestor, Robbie DeGidio, and Clint Edwards on both sides of the ball.
- The Division III Eagles and cheerleaders will not be on the field again until they travel to Minisink to face Minisink Green on Saturday, October 11, at 8:00 P.M.
030921 - New Windsor vs Cornwall Green
- Dragons Slay Eagles.
- The New Windsor Eagles Division III team and cheerleaders returned home to host the Cornwall Green Dragons Sunday, September 21. The Eagles were stopped by the Dragons stifling defense. Cornwall jumped out to an 8-0 half time lead. A touchdown on the opening drive of the second half and a late fourth quarter score sealed a 22-0 victory for the Green Dragons.
- The Eagles offense was led by the running of Matt Walker, Mike Durso, and Eddie Sanchez. Mike Durso also had a nice reception for 20 yards. The Eagles offensive line Robbie DeGidio, Danny Summer, James Wright, Jarred Baker, Craig Rybicki, Gabriel Haynes, Anthony Nestor, Michael Murphy, Don Starkey, Max Gordon, and Toby Lee were unable to consistently control the line of scrimmage. Mike Durso's first interception of the year started the Eagles best drive of the day. Cornwall's interception in the endzone ended the best Eagles threat of the day.
- Defensively Vincent VonRiper, Andrew Ponessa, Ryan Davies, James Wright, Demuy Gray, Mike Phillips, Michael Murphy, and Danny Summer gave their all. The defense was unable to consistently stop the Dragons offense. The defense also struggled in passing situations and failed to get pressure on the quarterback. Playing iron man football, Mike Durso, Matt Walker, Eddie Sanchez, Anthony Nestor, Robbie DeGidio, Max Gordon, and Gabriel Haynes played both ways but were unable to stop Cornwall.
- The Eagles will host Washingtonville, Sunday, September 28, 2003, at 1:00 P.M., at the Mt. Airy Sports Complex.
030914 - New Windsor vs Highland Falls
- New Windsor Eagles Escape With Victory.
- The New Windsor Eagles Division III team and cheerleaders traveled to Highland Falls Sunday September 14. Playing their second road game of the season, the Eagles were hoping to avoid another slow start. The Eagles started strong but struggled the entire second half. The Eagles managed to eke out a 27-26 victory in overtime.
- The Eagles marched the opening kickoff down the field but were stopped inside the Rangers 15 yard line. After holding the Rangers without a first down, the Eagles took the lead when Mike Durso scored the first of his two touchdowns. Quarterback Eddie Sanchez converted the extra point try for a 7-0 Eagle lead. On their next possession, the Rangers responded by driving the field to score on a 22 yard pass. This narrowed the lead to 7-6. Matt Walker's first interception of the year stopped the extra point attempt. On the ensuing kick off, New Windsor's Clint Edwards returned the ball 70 yards for an apparent touchdown, however a penalty negated the fine effort. The Eagles were not deterred and drove the length of the field to take a 14-6 lead on the scoring of Mike Durso and Eddie Sanchez. Defensive pressure by Robbie DeGidio forced a fumble that was recovered by Tobby Lee. A 28 yard quarterback sneak by Eddie Sanchez closed out the first half with the Eagles leading 20-6. The second half was marred by Eagle turnovers and poor tackling. Highland Falls tied the score with 2 minutes to play. The Eagles failed to convert a fourth down attempt leading to yet another Rangers drive. The defense held inside the 5 yard line to force overtime. Highland Falls won the coin toss and scored on their first possession. The extra point attempt was not successful. Eddie Sanchez scored for the Eagles to tie the score. Matt Walker converted the extra point attempt to give New Windsor the victory.
- Hard work by the Eagles offensive line Robbie DeGidio, Kevin Marry, Jarred Baker, Craig Rybicki, Gabriel Haynes, Anthony Nestor, Michael Murphy, Don Starkey, Anthony Cardona, and Andrew Ponessa allowed the running backs to run for more than 200 yards. Defensively Clint Edwards, Toby Lee, Ryan Davies, James Wright, Demuy Gray, and Andrew Ponessa were solid. Mike Durso, Matt Walker, Eddie Sanchez, Anthony Nestor, Robbie DeGidio, and Gabriel Haynes played both ways and provided real leadership.

030906 - New Windsor vs Wallkill
- New Windsor Eagles Clawed by Wallkill Panthers.
- The New Windsor Eagles and cheerleaders visited the Wallkill Panthers, Sunday, September 7. The Panthers were not friendly hosts. Led by the outstanding running of Karim Barnes the Panthers jumped out to a 20-0 lead midway through the second quarter. The Panthers early blitz was enough to hold off the Eagles 32-20.
- The Eagles were down but not out. They pounded their way back into the game. Eddie Sanchez’ running and passing, and the running of Matt Walker, and Mike Durso inspired the entire team. Matt Walker’s 34 yard touchdown run, and Mike Durso’s extra point conversion cut the deficit to 20-7. Robbie DeGidio’s 17 yard touchdown catch at the end of the first half made the score 26-13. Robbie DeGidio had four receptions on the afternoon. Eddie Sanchez scored on a 16 yard touchdown run in the third quarter to narrow the deficit to 26-20. It was as close as the Eagles would come. The strong blocking of Kevin Marry, Jarred Baker, Craig Rybicki, Gabriel Haynes, Anthony Nestor, Michael Murphy, Anthony Cardona, and Donald Starkey anchored the Eagles offensive attack.
- Defensively the Eagles struggled early but stiffened as the game wore on. Clint Edwards, Eddie Sanchez, Matt Walker, Mike Durso, Robbie DeGidio, Craig Rybicki, Anthony Nestor, and Andrew Ponessa led them. Ryan Davies, James Wright, Toby Lee, and Demuy Gray were solid on the defensive line.
- The New Windsor Eagles will travel to Highland Falls, Sunday, September 14, for a 1:00 P.M. face off with the Rangers.
